Understanding Hormonal Changes During Perimenopause and Menopause

As women progress through various stages of life, hormonal fluctuations can significantly impact their mood, mental health, and physical well-being. This is particularly true during perimenopause and menopause when estrogen and progesterone levels decline. Women often report experiencing irritability, sadness, and mood instability, which can affect their personal and professional lives. The physical symptoms, such as hot flashes, sleep disturbances, aches and stiffness in the joints, a loss of balance, weight gain, and the risk of osteoporosis, can exacerbate feelings of frustration and helplessness. The interplay between these hormonal changes and emotional responses can create a cycle of discomfort that seems hard to break.

How Qigong Can Help

An ancient practice that has shown promise in alleviating these symptoms is Qigong, a gentle form of exercise that combines movement, meditation, and breath control. Engaging in Qigong can help women stabilize their mood and improve mental health by promoting relaxation and reducing stress, restoring balance, improving digestion and sleep, keeping joints loose, and increasing core strength and bone density.  Through mindful movements, Qigong encourages better circulation and helps balance energy in the body, leading to decreased anxiety and improved emotional resilience. Additionally, the meditative aspect of Qigong fosters a sense of calm and mindfulness, enabling women to respond more effectively to the challenges posed by hormonal changes. By incorporating Qigong into their daily routine, women can find a holistic approach to managing the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, instilling a sense of empowerment during a transformative time in their lives.

The Balance of Fire and Water

The Balance of Fire and Water

Balancing Yin and Yang Energies Through Qigong

Qigong is an ancient practice that harmonizes the body's energies, specifically the balance of yin and yang. Yin controls the waters of the body and Yang controls the fire. Yin and yang are always inversely proportional to each other; as Yin falls Yang rises, as Yang falls Yin rises. For women, this balancing act is particularly significant because of the role hormones play. Estrogen and progesterone are yin substances. As they fall (and fluctuate), they pull down the Yin (water) and create an imbalance in the body and the yang rises. This causes dryness, inflammation, hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, emotional turbulence, and over time, brittle bones, as minerals are carried and deposited throughout the body via fluids.

Through dedicated practice, Qigong helps women conserve their innate Yin energy and gather more from nature, while simultaneously cultivating the necessary Yang energies to achieve emotional and physical equilibrium. This holistic approach not only fosters a deeper sense of relaxation and overall well-being but also empowers women to embrace their unique energy patterns, helping them thrive in a fast-paced world. In essence, Qigong serves as a vital practice for women to reclaim their balance and harmonize their Yin and Yang energies, promoting a healthier, more vibrant life.

Menopause - The Second Spring

In Qigong, Menopause is called "The Second Spring" of a woman's life. It is not a time of fading away and becoming less. It is a time of coming into your place as Wise Woman, a time to enjoy all of the experience and knowledge you have gained up to this point. Second Spring is a time of new growth, creativity and self-expression. The major way a woman loses her vital life force, or Jing, is through the monthly loss of blood. A woman's energetic foundation is blood and the middle energetic center surrounding the heart. Now that the monthly loss has stopped, or will be soon, a woman's energy flow has the opportunity to gain a consistent balance and strength. With the heart center being so foundational to women, it is important to build social networks in this time where you can share your wisdom, talents, compassion and creativity. The more women connect, the stronger they become. We invite you to connect with us.
